Useful Guidelines For Writing A Literary Analysis Essay

The key to writing a great literary analysis essay is to ensure you have proper organization and presentation of your information. To write a great literary analysis essay you should consider the following:

  • Make an outline. You wouldn’t build a new home without a blue print, so don’t build your argument without one. Write an outline and you will be surprised at how much better organized your content is. Make sure you lay out the structure you want to follow, ensure your arguments are logical and complete, and that will stop you from getting off track while you are writing your paper. Figure out what parts you need to present, how you want the introduction to look, what should be in the body, etc…
  • Your analysis should have three key parts: the introduction, the body, the conclusion. The introduction is what lets the reader know what piece of literature you are going to analyze and how you going to analyze it, or what parts you are analyzing. It serves as a sort of road map for your reader to follow. It makes it easier for them to understand the subject of your paper, what you hope to find out in the course of your paper, and how you are going to go about that. The body needs to constitute the largest part of your paper. It needs to be logically organized. Make sure you have important information explained clearly in your paper. Never assume the reader has the same knowledge level as you unless told otherwise. The conclusion is where you summarize the findings in light of the evidence you presented in your body. Remember to close things up nice and neat here, and do not leave the reader hanging.
  • Remember to analyze, analyze, and analyze some more. The analysis you are conducting needs to be clear throughout the entire paper. You want to make sure you present the analysis first and foremost. Do not present information, but wait to say what you really mean or what your analysis was until the end. Draw together all of your evidence and your analysis throughout the paper. This will help impress your reader. It will show off your analytical skills much better, and it will provide the interpretation that you desire right away, rather than leaving the reader to guess at your interpretation.
